From “Abandoned” to Cherished: You Need to Know You’re Not Alone!

Can we be real? Sometimes singleness feels like sitting in a never-ending waiting room with no magazines and no coffee dispenser to distract you.

And instead of a TV to help you pass the time, you’re given front-row seats to a large, see-through window revealing all of the couples on the other side of the waiting room door enjoying their relationship.

I’m in this space as we speak! I’ve watched loved ones, friends, coworkers, colleagues, random strangers on the internet. I’ve watched people get divorced…and then remarried! So while they’re on marriage #2,  I haven’t even had marriage #1!

When you’re single in your 20s, 30s, 40s, and heck, even your 50s and beyond, it can feel like everyone else got their name called but you.

  • It doesn’t feel fair.
  • It doesn’t feel right.

Sure, you know you’re not perfect but you’ve done your best.

  • You go to church.
  • You pray.
  • You read your Bible.
  • You serve in your church.

So when you see everybody else paired up it can make you start to wonder “What’s wrong with me?” “Am I not doing enough?” “Could God have forgotten about me?”

If you’ve ever cried in the shower after another wedding invite hit your mailbox, rolled your eyes at another grand proposal on social media, questioned if you’re just “too much” for someone to love, or wondered out loud if you’re doomed to a life of singleness or settling for that neighbor who gives you the ick, — you’re not alone.

Every single Christian woman who has been praying and waiting for long periods knows what it’s like to experience that fear.

  • It’s that fear that can keep you up at night.
  • That fear that keeps you holding onto that guy who started strong and is now responding to your text messages days later.
  • That fear that got you into your third situationship this year.
  • That fear that says, “Maybe, just maybe, it’s never going to happen for me and I’ll be #foreveralone.”

You start to think that maybe God has sentenced you to a lifetime of celibacy (insert shudder here). No strong arms wrapping around you, no ‘I love you’s’ whispered in your ear, no cuddle sessions while you watch another episode of Love is Blind — just a cold bed, an empty apartment, and a boring life. 🙂‍↕️

Sis, if this sounds like you I want to remind you that we do not serve a God like that. God hears your prayers and He is actively, presently, and currently working behind the scenes for you. And He definitely doesn’t want you living a boring life.
