As my sister handed me my mail, she said, “Well, the jury duty people finally got you.“
I couldn’t help but feel annoyed. The thought of losing a day (or more!) for jury duty just didn’t appeal to me (or my bank account!).
Quickly reading through the paperwork, I saw that I would have to call the day before my scheduled date to find out if I had to come in.
I prayed, and prayed, and prayed. However, when I finally called, a cheery recorded voice told me to report to the courthouse at 7:45 AM the next day.
No Way Out
Sis, I know you’ve been there. There is nothing like having your entire day (or even your life!) planned out only for God to decide to a) do something completely different or b) allow something completely different!
This can leave you feeling frustrated, annoyed, discouraged, and even disappointed with God. But this is when you have to do something that doesn’t come naturally: you need to trust the process.
Getting back to the story…
From 7:45 AM to 9 AM was a flurry of activity: check in, herded into an assembly room, and several pre-recorded videos. Eventually, someone told us we would be “assigned” to various judges’ cases and should watch out for our name being called.
Judge 1: Not assigned. I waited.
Judge 2: Not assigned. I waited.
Judge 3: Not assigned. I waited.
It was now about to be noon and I still hadn’t been assigned to a judge! I was annoyed, cranky, and tired.
I was one second away from falling asleep and no amount of puzzles or audiobooks could keep me awake. I was tired of waiting. So what do you do when this happens to you?
Read on for what you have to remember to get through your singleness season/waiting period in one piece.
